International Roadcheck

September 9-11th
BE ON ALERT FOR HIGHER THAN NORMAL VEHICLE INSPECTION VOLUMES

International Roadcheck is a 72-hour high-volume, high-visibility inspection and enforcement initiative when CVSA-certified inspectors in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. conduct commercial motor vehicle and driver inspections at weigh or inspection stations, at designated fixed locations or as part of roving mobile patrols. Over that three-day time frame, law enforcement personnel will inspect commercial motor vehicles for compliance with federal regulations and utilize the North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria to identify critical inspection item violations.

During the 2019 roadcheck, the US FMCSA inspected approximately 3.36 million vehicles, and almost 1 million (or 28%) of the vehicles were found to be in violation of the regulations. The inspections include a North American Standard level 1 inspection, which includes an inspection of driver documents and vehicle maintenance.

Here are a few tips for ensuring you don’t get penalized during the blitz!

  • In the case that it is requested, have your ELD documentation ready
  • Have at least eight days of blank paper logs available in the CMV
  • Annotate or claim unassigned driving time
  • Ensure all malfunctions are noted correctly
  • Always wear a seat belt
  • Have a professional attitude with the inspectors
  • Keep your vehicle clean at all times
